Why is Fastly so slow?

I am accessing Fastly from Germany and content provided by Fastly is incredibly slow over here. In the evening I barely get 50 KB/s download speed (on a 500 Mbit/s connection).

I have observed this in multiple geographic areas of Germany with connections provided by Deutsche Telekom (largest ISP in Europe). My ISP tells me that Fastly did not buy sufficient capacity, that's why it is so slow. Are you guys aware of this? How and when are you going to fix this?

    In the German region we have been working very closely with the providers and hope to have performance improvements soon.     Es hilft bei solchen Probleme eher sich bei der Telekom zu beschweren. Dass die Telekom schlecht peert und ihre Partner somit um Geld "erpresst" ist nichts neues.

    Du kannst auch bei der Telekom kündigen und einen kompetenten ISP wählen, der seine Kunden nicht als Geisel verwendet um bei den CDNs kostenpflichtiges Peering anzubieten.

    The Deutsche Telekom is known for bad peering, they want CDNs to pay a high price for direct peering, because they have a lot of customers. The Deutsche Telekom is known to use their high customer count to force peering partners to pay a high price to peer with the Telekom.

    It would be most helpful to switch to a comptent ISP that doesen't missuse their customers for extra cash. You can also complain to the Telekom for that. fastly itself ist not the primary culprit, but the Telekom.

    Upgrades were recently made in the German region which should improve network performance. If you continue to experience these same issues, please log a support ticket with us and we will investigate further.

    I know DTAG is naughty and there is nothing to do but now getting 60 KiB/s download (63 Mbit/s VDSL2).

    Many other sites also go thru Telia (e.g. ping.online.net) and thus also get the same speeds.
